Another Penguin Film Coming Soon

A documentary type film, called Penguins 3d,  is scheduled to be released in the U.S. in May. This one is about a young King penguin as he returns to his home at South Georgia Island in the far south Atlantic.

Perhaps they read my book. Probably not. After all, mine is about a Rockhopper.

It looks like a fun and interesting movie. I’m wondering if it will be as popular as March of the Penguins was a number of years ago.

Read an E-Book Week

bookmanI’m participating with Smashwords.com in Read an E-Book Week. Volume 1 is already free, but Volume 2 will be discounted to half price ($0.99). This goes into effect after midnight tonight and continues until 11:59 pm March 9. If you already have Volume 1, and you’ve been waiting for a price break on Volume 2, here’s your chance. Even if you don’t have Volume 1, because you never heard of it, here’s your chance. It’s free. More information about these books is available all over this website.

New additions to this site

I have two additions to the site. First, for those who like penguins, I’ve added a new page with links to stories I find about real penguins. A few days ago a Royal penguin was found on the beach in New Zealand. He had apparently gotten lost and was about a thousand miles from his home. He was in bad shape, and despite efforts to revive him, he died. Penguins are still very popular all around the world, and I’m seeing quite a few articles about them.

I’ve also added a page about Volume 3 of the Fly Like a Penguin trilogy, mainly to show my writing progress. This is perhaps a way of inspiring me to keep at it. We’ll see.

New cover for Volume 1

This is the latest in my attempts at creating a cover for Volume 1. This is the one that will appear on the e-book versions.

New Cover for my Paperback

The paperback version of Fly Like a Penguin, Volume 1, will be temporarily unavailable, because I finally got around to changing the cover. The changeover at Create Space will take a few days. First they have to check it out, then I’ll get a Proof Copy to make sure it looks okay to me, and if it does, I’ll tell them to publish it.

I’d already changed the cover for the ebook. The paperback is slightly different, but close enough that it doesn’t matter.

I also corrected a typo or two that I found in the interior. Here’s what the new cover should look like:

A Good Homeschool Resource

Recently I received a very nice compliment from a homeschool mom for my first book. She said she was enjoying reading it to her kids, and they really liked it too, especially her son. She also liked that it had some educational value too, because the kids could learn about different animals and places.

I like hearing things like that, because that is what I was hoping to accomplish with my writing. She also mentioned that she was passing on a plug for the book to her homeschooling  friends.

I mention this now because I think there is a place for good adventure and humor in fiction that can also be educational, as well as having a foundation of belief in the God who created all things and who is still involved in the lives of the creatures he created.

Volume 3 Update

For the many of you who in my imagination are wondering how progress is going for Fly Like a Penguin, Volume 3, (tentatively called) The Last Wave, here is an update.

So far I’ve written a bit over 15,000 words, which means I have quite a way to go. I just read through the whole thing, and I like it so far. I liked Volume 2 better than Volume 1, and I think I like this one as much as Volume 2. This one is the most complex. The story has a lot of pieces, kind of like a puzzle. They all have to come together to fit into the ending that I have planned. I’m pretty confident that it will happen. I just have to get to it. I’ve taken a break from the writing, but it’s time to get back to it.

It took me over 15 years to write the first book. Most of the second one I wrote in less than a year, but with the proof-reading and rewriting it took a few more years. I hope to finish this one by next summer. I’ve already gotten behind my previous schedule. I keep getting distracted. Onward and forward, as they say.

A Good Way to Do Christmas

We usually have our whole family home for Christmas,  which includes six kids, three sons or daughters-in-law, one grand-dog, and this year one granddaughter.

We’ll be missing one daughter and son-in-law this year, and we could complain about the breaking of tradition, but we won’t complain. What they are doing is a lot more important and has more to do with what Jesus came for than all our food and presents. For that I’m very thankful and I pray for a fruitful visit to India. They are going there to help with a children’s home which is associated with their church in Milwaukee.  Here’s a link where they can tell you about it.

Christian Fiction Book Reviews

If you’re looking for a place to find reviews of Christian books, look here. They are well-written reviews of books in different genres. I don’t mind giving them a plug, even though they haven’t reviewed my books yet.

They’re also running a contest for a $300 Kindle shopping spree. I wouldn’t mind winning that, but I probably won’t.

Free

My penguin adventure, The Long Way Home (Fly Like a Penguin, Vol. 1) is free, for now anyway, at Smashwords.com. The Smell of Evil (Vol. 2) is still $1.99. These are the ebook versions. The printed versions are both $8.99.
